How to connect Microsoft Entourage 2008 EWS to the Exchange Server

Important: Please make sure your Entourage 2008 copy has Web Services Edition Update installed before proceeding with its configuration. To obtain this software please go to Step 2.

Microsoft Entourage 2008 for Mac, Web Services Edition uses Exchange Web Services as the primary protocol to communicate with Exchange Server. In addition to several calendaring improvements, this new version of Entourage synchronizes notes, tasks, and categories with the Exchange Server.

Caution: If you want to go back to the earlier version of Entourage after you install Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition, you have to remove the complete Office 2008 application.

Step #1. Verify that your machine is compliant with the system requirements announced by Microsoft.
Your mailbox should be on Exchange 2007 or 2010. Entourage Web Services Edition will not work for Exchange 2003 mailboxes.

  1. To verify that your computer meets these minimum requirements, select About This Mac on the Apple menu. The Operating System version listed must be Mac OS X version 10.4.9 (Tiger) or a later.
  2. Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.1 Update (this requirement applies only to this release): You can download this update for free from the Microsoft Web site. Note: To verify that you have installed this update, you can open any Microsoft Office 2008 application to check the version number. For example: Open Word, and then on the Word menu, select About Word. In the dialog box, compare the version number next to Latest Installed Update.
  3. You cannot run Entourage 2008 for Mac and Entourage 2008 for Mac, Web Services Edition, on the same computer.
  4. For 2010 accounts, you MUST use Entourage 2008 EWS. WebDav is no longer supported and will not work in the Exchange 2010 environment.
Step #2. Install Entourage Web Services Edition.
  1. Quit any applications that are running, including all Office applications, Microsoft Messenger, and Office Notifications, because they might interfere with installation.
  2. Navigate to the Mactopia web site and select Download or select the link for the language version that you want.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to save the file to your hard disk. If you are using Safari, the downloaded file is saved to the desktop unless you specified a different location in the Preferences dialog box. To check your preferences, on the Safari menu, select Preferences, and then select General.
  4. Double-click the Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition Update to open it.
  5. In the Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition Update window, follow the instructions on the screen to start the installation process.
  6. During the installation process, your Entourage 2008 identity is not imported or upgraded automatically for use with Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition.
  7. When you first launch the new version of Entourage, you will have the option to import your existing Entourage 2008 identity. You must import from the existing identity.

Troubleshooting:
First of all, please ensure that your Mac meets the system requirements listed above.
